Tot School: Five Senses

Today at Tot School we learned about our 5 senses: sight, taste, touch, hearing, & smell. We read a book about how our eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and fingers help us use our senses.

HEAR: We sang and did hand motions to "Head & Shoulders" and "5 Senses", and shook our music shakers to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It" and "I Know a Chicken".  We played Simon Says and the kids identified the body parts we use for our senses.

FEEL: For arts & crafts we made a texture collage. It was fun squeezing out the glue and feeling the different textures of the materials.

SEE: We looked through binoculars and decorated our own silly goggles. The kids looked so cute-like little superheroes!

SMELL: The highlight of the day was playing with jello (orange and lime) scented play dough.  A couple of kids tried to eat it because it smelled so delicious!  Here is the link for the recipe if you want to try it at home: http://childstoryhour.com/recipeclay9.htm

"I'm making a cake"

TASTE: We quickly moved on to a more edible snack...popcorn, grapes, and lemonade.  We learned that popcorn can be experienced using all five of our senses.

Tot School: I Am Special

Today at Tot School we learned about how each one of us is unique and special to God.   We listened to some fun songs like “God Made You Special” and “I’m  So Wonderfully Made”.  Our verse for today was “I will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” ~Psalm 139:14.

We created special “All About Me” books with our handprints, photo, measurements, favorite things, etc.

We learned that we can keep our bodies healthy by eating a variety of foods from the five food groups.  We put our “food groups” snack onto a pie chart showing serving sizes for the five food groups.

We enjoyed playing with play food and playing “Simon Says”.  We also read several great books about characters with the kid’s names or favorite things.

Tot School: God Loves Me

Today at Tot School we celebrated Valentine’s Day by learning about the love of God.  We had a very special treat today…fruit, crackers, and marshmallows dipped in chocolate. There were lots of sticky fingers and happy chocolate smiles!

We enjoyed playing with beanbags and singing “Jesus Loves Me”.  The kids got some great exercise jogging around their indoor track, the loop through the kitchen, dining room, and living room.  They came up with this activity on their own and enjoyed it immensely!

Balancing act

At the table we practiced beginning letter sounds with heart charts and used our scissor skills to cut out a heart shape from a folded paper.  We made some cute crafts for Valentine’s Day.  The kids made a special hand print valentine and a silly valentine man.  They loved squishing their fingers in the paint to make their hand print hearts!

Peeled the stickers for his valentine all by himself!

They colored a “Jesus Loves the Little Children” picture and we talked about how He loves each one of us.

We ran out of time to make candy heart necklaces (I think the kids had plenty of sweet treats today anyway).

Although we spent most of our time on arts and crafts, we found a few minutes to read a special Veggie Tales story called “God Loves You Very Much”.
