Tot School: Shapes

Today at Tot School our theme was shapes.  The kids got to try out their new dry erase activity books and practice their fine motor skills like tracing their name and drawing lines.  They were enjoying their new activity books so much that we lost track of time!

We had to rush to get the snack ready while they did their arts and crafts activity.  We had fun with gluing shapes and matching them during arts and crafts time.  Our snack was an assortment of tasty shapes: cracker and banana circles, cheese squares, triangle corn chips, crescent pears, rectangle grahams, and oval baby tomatoes.

The kids enjoyed playing with shapes puzzles and learning how to sort cards with pictures of different shaped objects.  We also read a great book about shapes and the kids could hardly keep from jumping up to point out the shapes they found on each page.

Some fun activities we did were jumping on pillow squares and gathering up foam shapes.  The kids were excited about picking up the shapes as fast as they could.  That wasn’t the original object of the game (shape recognition) but was fun nonetheless!  Janet just kept throwing the foam shapes out of the bowl as quickly as she could and they kids kept gathering them by the handful.  We also sang some shapes songs as we played (Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star was a favorite).  I didn't capture the excitement of that game with my camera, but trust me, it was a hit!  Next week...LETTERS
